Brief bio written by: Joe Yang

Carlos Di Sarli (January 7, 1903 - January 12,1960) is known as a great tango musician, composer, and orchestra leader. A talented pianist, he started out studying classical music.

But at age 13 he began touring with a musical group to other Argentine provinces (much to the chagrin of his teacher and family), performing tangos and other pieces. Before forming his own tango group, he was once a member of Osvaldo Fresedo's renown tango orchestra.

Di Sarli's tangos are known for their clean, smooth sounds and regular rhythms which are good for beginning dancers. But the simple, easy-to-hear beats are also good for advanced dancers as they leave room for a variety of interpretation.

Tango music performed by his Orquesta Típica is commonly heard at milongas, and although many sound alike, they're easy on the ears and easy to dance to.

Like many musicians, Carlos Di Sarli was a perfectionist and known to be a complete pain in the ass to work with. Apparently his own orchestra walked out on him on three separate occasions! Nonetheless, his music is still greatly appreciated today, and his successful career amounted to a total of 27 albums. Click the players below to hear samples of Di Sarli's music...
