Brief
bio written by: Joe Yang
Edgardo Donato (April 14, 1897 - February 15, 1963) was born in Buenos
Aires, Argentina, to Italian parents. He studied music (not unlike other
famous tango musicians) and furthered his music education at the Franz
Liszt Conservatory.
Professionally, he started
out in the opera with his father but eventually ended up in a tango orchestra
in Montevideo, Uruguay.
|
Struggling
for a time, he eventually found success in the 1920s as his orchestra
played in prominent venues throughout Uruguay. In the 20s and 30s, he
recorded several songs that become well-known in the tango world.
Edgardo Donato, like others, had a creative approach to musical arrangements,
and was known for writing/performing tango music with tango dancers in
mind. Many of his songs tend to have a more happy and playful personality
to them.
