Brief bio written by: Joe Yang

Juan D'Arienzo (December 14, 1900 - January 14, 1976) studied the violin from the age of twelve, and started out playing in theaters before becoming a part of a tango orchestra.

Later, he started his own orchestra, and with his exuberant style, became a recording sensation. His recording of the song La Puñalada in 1950 was the first tango to sell over a million copies.

It
is said that he liked keeping the piano as the prominent instrument in his songs, and his style is marked with a harder rhythm than most other tangos. Nicknamed "El Rey del Compas" (King of the Beat), Juan D'Arienzo was known for his Valses (Waltzes) and Milongas. Early in his recording career, roughly 40% of songs his orchestra performed were Valses. And people loved them.

On many occasions he liked keeping the piano as the prominent instrument in his songs, and his style is marked with a harder rhythm than most other tango music of the time.
